We're about five hours from home but are checking in frequently with our old stompin' grounds to see how things are going there. I think the worst of it is supposed to hit around midnight. I'm thankful that at that particular time, I'll be in my comfy, safe bed here in Greensboro rather than at home waiting for a tree to crash through the roof.
We're planning on getting back home tomorrow afternoon. It will be interesting to see how things look upon our arrival; I have no idea what to expect. I've heard there's a good chance that there could be widespread power outages which means we'd all better shower and prettify ourselves in the morning before we leave because who knows when our next shower might be?
In the meantime, we have declared this to an Official Smith Pajama tonight--even though it's only 6:30. We're all (Snowy included) getting ready to pile onto the king bed in the hotel room and watch a movie, eat our pizza, munch on our popcorn and enjoy our stash of chocolate. (I think I will blithely ignore any calorie counting for the night.)
I'll check in again tomorrow . . .

I'm glad you're away from the shore.
Thanks for updating Becky. I was wondering if you were coming back tonight or not. Glad you are safe, warm and cozy. Elaine
Thanks for letting us know that you're safe and sound. Too bad there are no hurricanes around here...I'd love the excuse to do unlimited pizza and chocolate! Enjoy.
Glad to know you're safe.
So glad you're safe and sound and enjoying some good pizza and chocolate! I'll be praying that everything will be OK with your house during the storm.
We're in eastern Virginia, and are so glad the storm appears to be moving east! :)
Glad you are safe! Thanks for the update :)
oh good, I've been thinking of your family often today as I keep hearing updates! I've been tuning in to the live camera from Kill Devil Hills on the Charlotte Observer's website from time to time, and it looks like there are still people on the boardwalk looking at the ocean. Glad your family is safe and sound inland!
Before you go back, make sure there is power and if there isn't, buy ice and such before you go back. I stayed in my house (on the TX coast) during Ike and it was pretty bad. The lack of power and a/c and the repair/rebuilding process was very stressful. Prayers for everyone's safety and for an easy return!
So glad you are all safe and comfy. It takes a lot of guts to leave your home not knowing what you will find on your return. I am sure many prayers are going up on behalf of your family and your house. Expecting good things upon your return.
Have you considered investing in a backup generator? Worth their weight (and expense) in gold.
Glad you're safe - is Snowy wearing PJs too? :p x
Hurricanes are an excellent reason for a little indulgence. Back when Hurricane Fran hit Wilmington in 1996, we lost power for a week, and the only food place open for a while was a Dunkin Donuts. We had to wait nearly half an hour to get some, but those donuts were sweet in more ways than one!
