The Discombobulated Mother Of A Wee Bonny Lass

Last week was tough for me on several levels and it left me just a little discombobulated. And out of sorts. And down in the dumps. And stressed. And tired. And even a wee bit cranky.

I even went so far as to break a new world record for myself and wrote only one post in five days. Since I am the Original Overly Frequently Posting Post-er (722 posts in the past two years), that was quite a long stretch of such minimal posting.

And then I said to myself, “Oh, woe is me. No one cares if I post or not. I’m really not sure that I’m cut out for this blogging gig. Maybe I’ll just throw in the towel.”

Every time I sat down to write, the General Malaise-Imbued Discombobulatory Distress would hit me in full force and my psyche would turn to Jell-O. My brain would cease emitting coherent thoughts. My mind would become paralyzed by the paucity of anything witty or even remotely interesting to say.

And then I convinced myself that no one cared if I blogged or not, and that it was all a big ol’ stinkin’ waste of everyone’s time to even come here and I had nothing important to contribute to the blogging world in general or to people’s lives in particular and therefore I should just trudge off and hide in a cave somewhere and eat Chocolate Bavarian Cream Filled Krispy Kreme doughnuts (and also malted milk balls) until the end of time. (And yes, that was a run on sentence. In case you were wondering.)

However. After the twenty-third doughnut, it occurred to me that cave-hiding and doughnut ingesting were not all they were cracked up to be.

So I have emerged from the cave to write another day.

And whether anything coherent or interesting or even quasi-amazing ever emerges again onto this page, I’m just a little bit hooked on this place. And on all of you--my dear and loyal readers.

And so that is my Monday morning missive. I’m not sure that I have the emotional/mental wherewithal to write anything longer at this point, but I did want to get a little something posted so that my World Record of Non Posting did not get added to by yet another day.

And Since A Picture in a Post . . .

. . . always makes the reading journey a bit more pleasant, here are a couple shots I took of my sweet Sarah (who I must say was very patient and compassionate with me during my down time) on St. Patrick’s Day.

She is such a lovely wee bonny lass, beautiful on the inside and out.

Oh Becky, I checked every day and missed your posts so much. So sorry you have been discomobulated, but know that your faithful readers are always thinking of you. I count on you to brighten my day with your thoughts and your wonderful pictures. SOOOOOO glad you are back. By the way, your Wee Bonnie Lass is just beautiful.

Becky, I care - I always love to read your posts but I have been dealing with many big personal issues and myself felt too discombulated and mussy brained and down in the dumps to even comment. I am sorry. Just pray for me, please. It is not me, personally, but members of my family. We will make it through - just not in a commenting moood - that will pass also. Take care and God Bless.

I check in multiple times every day! I have missed your posts and actually worried that something had happened! Don't ever think your blogging is pointless! It is so NOT! I read your blog because when I am having a bad day I can always count on being uplifted by your blog even if you are blogging about sad things. Those are the times when I get uplifted because I get the chance to give back by sending up prayers in your honor! I do understand being discombobluated! I feel that way often! Just know that you and your family are loved and we all love reading your blog! If we didn't we wouldn;t check it so regularly!
Love & hugs!

I care!!! I check every day just as I checked Sarah's Spot every day for years and years! Your posts are ALWAYS a bright spot in my day and how many people in this world can say they have that kind of a regular positive influence on other people? Not many I'd bet.

I am happy to read anything you write, whenever you write it. We all need breaks now and again. I am the queen of breaks over here :)
I know the nagging feeling that people are checking the blog and nothing new has been written, it can become just another 'to do' before you know it.
Don't push it, we will be here whenever you pop your head up!

I, for one, am glad that you are back! I looked at least once a day (or hour!) to see if you blogged! I would miss you if you were to leave...and I'm sure there are MANY more who agree!

I am sorry hear of your discombobulation, though. I sure hope this week is ever so much better.

Blessings!
Krista

I'm glad you are back and I hope you are okay! I love your writing! I also love Sarah's necklace she's wearing in the photos. And, I now wish I had about a dozen Krispy Kremes. Those things are so good, aren't they? Yes, yes the are.... :)

I have been a faithful reader, but infrequent commenter for years. I kept checking and checking for a new post, and like others hoping that nothing was wrong or that you were just hip-deep in MOG details. I follow many blogs, but yours is one of the few that have "kept it real" since Day 1, which is why I keep coming back. So, please don't even think of giving up and I promise to comment more often.

I may have to get "discombobu-lated" myself just so I can try your Krispy Kreme donuts and malted milk balls remedy--for scientific research purposes of course.

Did the "Little Miss" get highlights? If not, she has the perfect highlight looking hair. Thinking of going back to bangs after a long and tough "grow out" what would Sarah say about that?

Sorry you have been so morose lately. I have been feeling that way also. Throw in NO sleep and I am a B with an ITCH (sorry to offend). So, I plan to go to my MD appointment today, get my blood drawn and beg him (I won't have to beg) for something to help me sleep or else I will continue on this path of feeling all blah and such and my long awaited travels next week (that I am already stressing) about are all for nothing.

Love you Becky AND PUT DOWN THE DONUTS.

well if I didn't care than I wouldn't continue to check here each day seeking your wonderful words of wisdom. So I am glad you are feeling better. I enjoy your posts no matter what they are about.

We MISSED you!! I was wondering what was up. My husband posts frequently on Facebook and I think he is in this same funk because he isn't receiving much encouragement through his posts lately. Just know that there are people like us out there reading your posts but we don't necessarily reply about how much your blogs affect our lives.

I also check in many times a day and missed not seeing something by my favorite cousin, but I just figured you were busy with church, and maybe spring time bike rides and I knew you had your doctor appt. I pray everything went well with that, if it didn't know we are all here for you.
Love you,
Sandy

Becky, you have the right to post as often (or not) as you like, but since I check several times a day to see if there is a new post, you are missed when you take a break. Give yourself a break! Think of all that you have been dealing with, even the good news can be stressful. Your loyal readers will take whatever we can get, and will keep you always in our prayers.

Having spent most of today under my favorite fuzzy blanket with my own serious case of discombobulate-ness, I empathize with you whole-heartedly. I am also one of those who checks in multiple times a day, so I was definitely missing you. In fact, I was not loving that thing on the side that tells the location and time of people who stop in--I figured you'd think, "There's that whacko from Portage stopping in here AGAIN!" Sure hope you're feeling a little brighter in spirit. I have ventured out from under my blanket to face the world again and I'm so thankful you're in it! :-)
Love you.

I'm glad you are back too! I was hoping that nothing was wrong. Your posts do mean a lot to a lot or people! And almost every day I am one of those people. I am always amazed at how much you are able to post- i love blogging too but am usually only able to fit in in about 1-2 times per week. You are a blogging queen and your writing is inspiring amazing! And fun to read too!

I am glad you are back. :) Becky, I have been following all you Smiths since 2006 so you are a part if you can say so about my life. Your posts can make me smile and touch me :) Bu I hope you feel not so down but I know what it is like but when I do feel down I do something to make myself good like doing things I enjoy and relaxing.
The pictures are lovely.

Discombobbled happens. But never allow it to convince you that no one cares if you post or not. A day without Smithellaneous is like a day without sunshine! (Oh...wait a minute...I live in the Pacific northwest...they're all without sun all winter.) OK...a day without Smithellaneous is like a day without fun!

My recommendation is that you keep up the chocolate therapy and remember that you have an awful lot of fans out here.

This faithful reader is so glad to see a post of any kind; been a little worried about the Smith family. Sory to hear you are feeling so discombobulated and will be praying that you are soon feeln back to your witty self. Life can sometimes knock the wind out of out sails for a time. Oh, how blessed to know that we do not walk through those times alone. And, what a beautiful bonny lass she is, indeed!

I know how comfy that cave can be! Glad you emerged!

"I can sing in the troubled times, sing when I win;

I can sing when I lose my step and I fall down again.

I can sing 'cause You pick me up, sign 'cause You're there;

I can sing 'cause You hear me, Lord, when I'm callin' to You in prayer.

I can sing with my last breath, sing for I know

That I'll sing with the angels and the saints around the throne!!!!!"

This song, by Chris Tomlin, has been bouncing around in my head and spirit for days and when I let my voice go...well at the least there's a difference in my countenance!! May it lighten your heart and spirit! Love ya!

Girrrl, we are sisters from another mother. I feel that same thing SO often. But it's funny, when I hear you say this it sounds so silly. You are wonderful and so loved and would be incredibly missed. Why can't we know this about ourselves?! I say we don't let the devil get his way.

Love you! Lisa~
