It's times like this that I am so grateful for your faith because I know that I don't have to have the perfect words to comfort you. Your faith and the words of Our Father in heaven sustain you during this difficult time, feeding your spirit and your soul as you experience the earthly loss of your beloved father.

Heaven has gained a very special angel today. . . a man of unlimited compassion and profound love...a devoted husband, father, grandfather...a minister to many and a friend to far more.

Your father lived his life as an example of God's precious gifts to us because he was one of them. I know from stories you've shared that you grew up feeling safe and loved and protected. You were raised to believe that God never fails us and that His love sustains us...and His presence surrounds us.

You grew up with a father who loved you as Our Father loved him. And now you have him as an omnipresent companion, surrounding you with his presence and filling your heart to overflowing.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family today.

I smile for Ed and the Lord sees my joy in celebrating his homecoming, but my heart hurts for you as I speak your name quietly with Him.

A few years ago, I watched as my wife, Mary, strolling down a moonlit beach with our family. She was hand in hand with her Dad and he was listening to all of her stories as though she were that little girl once again telling Daddy the things he prides the most, and this came to me.

Such a place hold's no one
Except for one so dear
Such a place can't be entered
Within my heart right here

Such a place is held special
And brims with overflowing love
Such a place can't be touched
It's a gift from heaven above

Such a place can't be broken
Nor battered with life's pains
And this such a place on its own
Will always eternally reign

Such a place even marriage,
Friendship and love cannot take
Such a place is locked bound
With chains no man can break

Such a place can't be lost
And makes me feel humbly glad
Just such a place within my heart
Is being held in the arms of my Dad.

Just had time to read the comments for today and learn of your father's passing to the shore of Heaven. Our Daddys shared the same birthday, Becky. My Daddy was born May 10, 1925, and passed on August 6, 2009. With tears rolling down I write this to you because I know the hurt and pain even though we share joy that they are free at last and no more pain. May God be with you and the entire family in the days ahead. Dr. Vance Havner said, "Nothing is lost when you know where it is." I heard him say that at Winona Lake, IN one summer. I haven't lost my Daddy because I know where he is -- we are just separated for time. Praying for you! Love to all.

Wishing a safe, safe trip for you all and a wonderful celebration of your dad's life. Tell lots of stories! (As if you needed encouragement).

So glad the interview went well. Hope this is really the right place and that you can make the move smoothly. I'd dearly love to do Sarah's science education this next year, but I'm in Minnesota!

Looking forward to more news. Jane

My heart hurts for all of you.

When I read what you wrote last night, about all of you "settling in around him," I thought it was so beautiful. What more can any of us want at the end of this earthly life than to be surrounded by the love of our God and our family?

Becky, I am so glad that you made it to your dad's side before he passed. He waited for you as I am sure he waited for you many times while you were growing up. I lost my dad last year and understand your pain. A dad is a special person who holds a special place in our hearts.
Becky, Steve, Nathan, Sarah, You have each lost someone very special to you. Each of you have your own special memories of him as well as those memories you share together. You have lost his physical being, but his spirit and love will live in you and with you forever. Hugs and comfort to you, the rest of your family and all who knew and loved him. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
