Revisiting Cameras and Hurricanes.

Hello again!

A couple of you have offered some helpful, thoughtful advice about things to try in an attempt to get my camera to work again. I guess I should have been more specific about what's wrong with it. The button that allows you to switch back and forth between "view the pictures" mode and "take the pictures" mode fell off. And disappeared completely. So the camera is stuck in "view the pictures" mode and there's no way to get it to switch back over.

I think it could probably be fixed by ordering a new switch but that will probably take several weeks, at least. And it may not even be fixable. I'm going to call Canon in just a minute and see what they say about it.

In the meantime, I've run to the grocery store yet again for a few more emergency supplies. (Is chocolate considered an emergency supply? I sure hope so.)

Still haven't made a decision if we're going or staying tomorrow but we do know that Sarah's school has been cancelled till next Tuesday. With strong winds coming our way and a lot of high bridges, buses aren't really the safest vehicles to be traveling in.

I really hate it for the businesspeople in the area; Labor Day is a huge weekend for them and is a time when they make a lot of their money for the season. Tough thing for them.

Steve and I are still discussing whether or not we need to leave or stay; we'll wait till the storm gets closer to get a better handle on just how severe it might be and make our final decision from there.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for us and all the other people in this area of the country.

Right next to flashlights and toilet paper is chocolate in the emergency supply protocol.

Absolutely! Chocolate is a required emergency meal..or 2 or 10! Riding out a hurricane is actually quite exhilirating! I love storms of all kinds! Above all stay safe, Smithies!

I hope you'll consider leaving; the latest report from the National Hurricane Center shows the storm both intensifying and not turning as quickly as predicted, which means a direct hit for the OBX. Since you have family inland, please go and be safe.

Of course chocolate is included in emergency supplies. Having been several hundred miles from where a hurricane hit in Florida many years ago, I would think leaving might be a good idea. My Mom and I were right on the coast and it was quite exciting. This sounds like it could be bigger. Better safe than sorry.

I hope you got a good answer on your camera, since I know how much you miss it.

Stay safe,

Cindy from Sonoma

I have been thinking of you, Steve and Miss Princess Groovey Chick everytime I see a weather report on Earl and wanted you to know that your family, along with everyone else who may be in the storms path will be in my constant prayers. As I read your post I see you have been trying to decide whether or not you will stay or go. Which ever you choose, be safe!! Deb Mathy

PS I'm so sorry you have to go through this enormous *first* w/o your trusted friend-your camera! I bet the withdrawls have doubled! :)

My son works at a camera store and told me to tell you that repair may cost you around $180 for your Canon. Most will be for labor.

Please stay safe in the coming storm!
Stock up on Chocolate! I would be happy to do my share and eat some for you!
