Texans and Graham Crackers

Last night, we had some special visitors from Texas, Fran and Ken. Although we'd never met them, the "introductions" had been made via Fran reading Sarah's website for several years. Fran and I had emailed back and forth a little and then the next thing we knew, they were in the area on business (Ken works as a consultant in the petroleum industry) and they asked if they could take us out to dinner.

Since Nathan had to work all day, we opted to go to Chick-Fil-A so that Fran and Ken could meet him, too. As soon as we got in Nathan's line to be waited on, I started giving him a hard time, demanding to speak to the manager, telling Nathan I wanted eight ice cubes in my cup, not nine, and telling him to please stop being so slow and get my order done already. He put up with my motherisms very patiently.

After eating, we brought Ken and Fran back to the house for coffee, dessert and more conversation. It was such a treat to meet more web friends.

Today, Sarah, Steve and I have an exciting outing planned which you can read about by checking back in later. (I know, I know. Mean ol' me.) I had so wanted Nathan to be able to go with us, but he wasn't able to get off work so it'll just be Steve and his lovely ladies.

Before I forget, there were a couple guest book questions/comments to address. A couple of you said the title that I put with Snowy and Sarah's picture scared you. Oops. Sorry! Didn't mean to do that!

Also, Melissa asked if our old church has a new pastor yet. No, they don't, but they are in the process of bringing in candidates.

I'd better go get ready for our outing and make sure my supply of malted milk balls is replenished. (smile) Oh yeah, speaking of yummy things, about a week ago I was in a convenience store a couple hundred miles from Smithfield and found a new bar made out of Golden Grahams cereal, marshmallows and chocolate. If you've read my writing for any length of time, you know that I am a huge fan of anything graham cracker-ish. I bought the bar and LOVED it. Since then, I have looked in several other stores and haven't seen it. It's only available in ONE store in the entire world? And that store is four hours away? Horrors!

Has anyone else seen that bar in your town? I'm hoping it's on its way to becoming nationally distributed because it was love at first sight.

Oh yeah. And "love at first sight" reminded me of something else. (This is like in Steve's sermons when he says, "And as I continue to close . . ." )

Sarah and I were at Goodwill this week and I saw a t-shirt that said, "Do you believe in love at first sight or do I need to walk by again?" Perfect shirt for some cute, college coed.

And then I saw another t-shirt that said, "Money talks but chocolate sings."

I love t-shirts. And Goodwill. And graham cracker bars.

I'm done.

(Plea for help: If you're good with Blogger, I need some advice. I was going to try to replace the picture at the top with another one that was cropped differently; however, I don't know how to delete a picture! And the steps given in Blogger didn't work. Help!!!)

I did a google search for "golden grahams bar" and it only provided links to recipes to make S'mores using the cereal....here is one: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,golden_grahams_smores,FF.html

I would love to try the bars as Golden Grahams is one of my favorite cereals! Hope you find them!

When you upload pictures onto Blogger, you can choose the size. Maybe make it smaller to fit Sarah in.
Did you know you could blog from Picisa? I think I remember you saying you used Picisa. You can select a bunch of pictures and click "blog this" at the bottom of the page. It's a pretty cool feature!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Like Angie (and before I read the comments page to see she had already done it), I googled the Golden Grahams for you and found many recipes, as well as a yahoo query as to where these bars went. Apparently, they have been around for a long time--years--and then disappeared. So, perhaps they are finding their way back to the world. I will go to Golden Grahams site and see if they can tell me what retailers carry them.

Geez, the things I do for people I've never met.

Oh, and speaking of meeting, when the day comes that I arrive on your doorstep with offers for dinner, we may swing by the chicken place to meet the fabulous Nathan...but we are eating at a different restaurant! Something 5-star.

Like Cracker Barrel.

Okay, they're called Golden Graham Treats and are different than the bar recipes found (there are recipes listed for the treats, too). Here is what I found:

Golden Grahams Treats

Satisfy king-size cravings with new Golden Grahams Treats, available exclusively to convenience store retailers from General Mills. The king-size snack bars are available in two varieties – Chocolate Marshmallow and Peanut Butter Chocolate – and combine Golden Grahams cereal pieces with chewy marshmallows, chocolate chips and peanut butter for an on-the-go, indulgent snack, the company stated. The bars have a suggested retail price of $1.19.

As you can see, they are only available to convenience stores. What type of store were you in? 7 Eleven? Circle K?

I guess the only answer is for us to do some leg work and find these puppies for you!! Doesn't look like we can order them online.

It's always nice to finally meet someone you have had contact with for awhile. I am sure you all enjoyed it.
Goodwill, a lot of what I wear comes from there. My mother is a Goodwill junkie and when she finds something nice, she buys it for me, takes it home and washes it, hangs it on a hanger and then delivers it to me. My personal shopper. I am not one to really get into looking at the clothes, but the odds and ends I love. Being an artist I look at items and try to decided what I can do with them, what I can make using that item. And the prices are great!
Have a great day.

Becky, I do my posts in the html function, instead of the compose function, other than when I want to change the color, size, or font of the print. When you upload a picture, it will show as code in the html box. If you want to remove it, you highlight and delete that set of code. Creating your post in html allows you to cut and paste the pictures where you want them, put captions under them, etc. Go do a test post now; upload a picture, and look at it in html (when you're creating a new post, there are two tabs at the top right of the post area for compose and html, and you can toggle between the two). As for why the pic doesn't fit, I don't know! Mine always have.. maybe it's the 3 column layout. I have started directly loading my pics into my blog from Picasa; you might want to try that. Email me if you need more info...
