Update on Caleb

Just talked with Debbie.

Caleb has a fractured skull and some blood pooling inside but after observation through the night and a few more scans, it looks like he'll be released later today. His skull will take at least three months to mend.

Debbie said Caleb had been riding bike with his dad when all of a sudden, Randy saw Caleb's bike start to weave; the next thing he knew, Caleb was lying on the ground, unconscious. Caleb doesn't remember any of that; it's not real clear why he suddenly passed out.

Debbie got to ride with him in the ambulance to their small local hospital and then in the other ambulance on the way to Madison. She said that was extra special for her because when Caleb was a baby, he had to be transported by ambulance and she wasn't allowed to ride with him. It made her mother heart very, very happy to be able to be by his side through this particular trauma. She is a wonderful mother. (And a wonderful sister, may I add!)

Thanks for your concern and prayers; I told Debbie that our Smithellaneous friends were praying and she was so grateful.

We're off to Charlotte in a few minutes for a concert tomorrow. I'll sing as long as my voice and lungs allow; unfortunately, it's not been a good week in those two areas but the Bible says that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. I guess that means that God will be showing up strong tomorrow--for us, for Randy, Debbie and Caleb, and for you! We're all weak in some way and we all need His strength in some way.

My Mom's favorite verse is, "The joy of the Lord is my strength." That's such a good verse to hold on to--with both hands and with my whole heart!

I would like to assume your sister was given good guidelines on her son's condition, however, I was not many years ago after my son fell down the basement stairs. If he starts having a clear, drippy nose, it can mean that spinal fluid is draining which means it's possible for bacteria to go the other way (for lack of a better, more technical term) and that could lead to meningitis. We were so fortunate not to have this happen. My son was home with me for three days before I called his doctor (this was after being released from the hospital) assuming he had a cold. Fortunately, my doctor knew for us to get to Childrens Hospital immediately where he was heavily sedated for several days. I don't mean to alarm you, I just wish that was a sympton I had known could be a problem. My prayers will be with your family.

What a scary moment for your sister's family! I'm glad Caleb will be ok despite the skull fracture though.

Good luck for the concert tomomorrow! I'm sending good vibes your way!

Prayers being sent from IL to WI for Debbie and her family. Especially, to your nephew. Bless his heart (man I have too many friends in the south). Debbie if you are reading this I am your neighbor to the South in IL (about 45 minutes south of the WI boarder. My dad was born in White Fish Bay (moved to IL at four). Anyway, I hope and pray that Caleb begins to feel better each and everyday. Love, Jodi an avid fan of Sarah et al (and one whom never signs GB's nor leaves comments {I usually respond via email} but I hope that Debbie sees this).

I'm so glad to hear that things are not critical. What a scary time; I'll be praying that Caleb heals perfectly, and that God's timing is much swifter than the doctors' predictions. hugs.......

Glad to hear that even though Caleb's injury is serious, it sounds like he will recover completely. He's still in my prayers...as are you, Becky...and also the rest of your family. What a heavy load you're all carrying right now. God bless...

Oh my! What a scary accident.

I'm glad to hear that Caleb is on the (long) road to recovery...and I hope that his healing continues on an easy path now!

Prayers for your family...and your voice!
