You've taken pity on my poor, befuddled self and have come to my rescue and I am so grateful. I am feeling hope once again, hope that I will indeed rise to the occasion and serve my honored (and highly anticipated) guests something other than peanut butter.
Thank you to all my Smithellaneous cooking buddies. I appreciate you!

I hope it's not to late to jump in with a recipe. Next week is Mardi Gras. Why not a King Cake (and the "King" in the cake's name is from the Three Kings)?

Or you could give them Shoofly Pie, which is amazingly good. Be warned, it's also 99% sugar, so if you have anyone on the guest list with any sort of diabetes/hypoglycemia/sugar concerns it might be a pass.
Shoo Fly Pie
* 1 c. flour
* 2/3 c. brown sugar
* 1 Tbsp. shortening
* 1 tsp. baking soda
* 3/4 c. hot water
* 1 c. molasses
* 1 egg, beaten
* 1 9" unbaked pie shell
Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut shortening into flour mix until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 c. crumbs.
Dissolve baking soda in hot (but not boiling) water. In a small bowl, combine molasses, egg, and baking soda water and beat well. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.
